A STRANGER IN THE STREET AT THE EDGE OF THE EARTH

The concept involved an optically projected iteration of an early synthesizer known as a Mellotron. This particular variation of the instrument consisted of a midi sequencer, a soundboard, and twelve 16mm film projectors. Each projector contained a scene cut from a film produced by Mitchell, with an audio loop created by composer Joseph Stocker. The tones from each projector could be manipulated in real time, making the projectors a functional instrument. The instrument and projections were integrated into a related stage set.
